Google launched a blog to show off the power of Google Video.
9月14日 Google today released there blogsearch beta... It can be accessed in four ways
I'm a bit disappointment. You can only sort on relevance and date. And yes, you can filter with the standard 'advanced search' functionality. The standard operators from Google work here to:
Ans they added some extra operators for blogsearch:
- inblogtitle:
- inposttitle:
- inpostauthor:
- blogurl:
The weird thing is: The search implementation didn't work so good (as I expected) and the RSS implementation looks solid. I expected it to be the other way around... A search for ' scobleizer' doesn't result in blogposts of Robert Scobe... It does come with a 'related blog', that's isn't his main blog.. Some other searches i did, where not always resulting in the blogs that i was looking for.. And then then the RSS implementation. It took Google some time...but.. its here finaly. They did it pretty much the same way as MSN Search did You got at two options on the bottom of the page: Subscribe: Atom (10 results - 100 results) RSS (10 results - 100 results)
It works.. And it does the trick.. I curious how long it will take to get this functionality in the normal Google search...

Wow, what a great week this is for the web this is! Last weekend was Gnomedex 5, loaded with interesting view on tagging and using 'subscription'on the web (2.0). And don't forget the publication of Microsoft's plans on RSS and Longhorn, I will write an article on this topics later...

For India, France, Germany, South Korea, and China, we are reviewing some legal issues before letting users in those countries play back videos.”
And then .. GOOGLE EARTH (know as Keyhole in the past). This is a Windows application that has the functionality of Keyhole (a 3d earth), Google Maps and Google Local! Get it here! Google Earth - Home I have worked with Keyhole in the past... This is so extremly cool that this tool is free now! Download this fast, and be amazed!

On August 1st 'Current TV' will be be launched with the help of Google ('Google Current').
After today, Video on the web will never be the same again….
I found out that multible blogs are reporting the 'go-live' for today.
John Battelle's Searchblog, writes:
This is a nice story! Mabye Google Video will go online today...
Last friday (24 /6) a dutch guy call Arjan Dasselaar got a RSS item in his RSS reader, called : 'Google Video... Now with... video', with the dat: 27 juni 2005, 16.07 PM. This is the Item he got:
Posted by Matthew Vosburgh, Google Video Software Engineer A couple of months ago we launched a video uploader so you could add your own videos to Google Video. Well, now we're ready to start displaying all that stuff. I've been amazed by your cool videos. I had never seen a robot dog harassing an iguana before, or a monkey doing karate, and I had no idea you were such good dancers.
The clips play right in the page using the brand new Google Video Viewer: a free browser plugin for Windows made by our engineer Aaron Lee using code from the open-source Videolan project. It works great in both Firefox and IE, and we've designed it not to fight with any other video plugins you might have. We're releasing the Windows version first, with Mac (soon) and Linux (later) versions following, the same way we released the Google Video Uploader. A feature we're especially pleased with is the ability to search inside a video. Try looking for "sergey brin" and you'll see what I mean.
So have fun watching, or shooting - and keep sending in your videos!
It looks like Matthew Vosburgh (a Google Video Software Engineer) from the Google Blog made a mistake.. But it could also be a hoax....

6月14日 Today i got the following mail from Google Upload. This is exactly 2 months since i added my first movie to the Google upload program. I don't know if this is a coincidence.. I don't think it is... Since 14 april was also the release date of Google Upload, it could pretty much be a date on a launching calendar.
The good thing is, they probably entered a next phase. I hope they open up video.google.com for everybody, so that I can have a good repository for my video’s and videoblogs.. Hello,
We'd like to remind you that in our continued effort to respect the rights of copyright holders and content providers, Google is only accepting video uploads from persons who hold all necessary rights to the uploaded material.
Both U.S. copyright law and the Google Video Terms of Service prohibit distributing copyrighted works, unless you have the legal right to do so. If you're not sure whether you have the right to use any of the content you submitted to Google Video, including any music in the video, you can remove your uploaded video to the product by following these instructions:
1. Log in to your account at https://upload.video.google.com. 2. Check the box next to the file name you wish to delete. 3. Click on the "Delete Videos" button at the bottom of the table. 4. Click "Delete Videos" to confirm the deletion request.
Thank you for participating in the Google Video Upload program. For more information about intellectual property rights and the program, please visit https://upload.video.google.com/video_faq.html.
Sincerely,
The Google Video Team I just found this article on ZDNet which was released yesterday, saying: Sources said the new video search engine will be unveiled within the next two months. Oh no, not again two months! Hmmm, it will probably be the 14th of Augustus then...
5月6日 Fot some reason Yahoo never really got my attention. Until now.
They finalised there Video search service and it works pretty good. Where Google will keep the videos on there own servers (but there is nothing to find yet), this engine give results from the web that you can actually see directly!
This news I found the most interesting. It seems that Yahoo is working in a Music Seach Engine.. Interesting!
Google Labs is realising a lot of new (beta) services the last couple of months! This week it's the Google WebAccelerator Lots of blogging took place on this new release Google Beta service.
Blogging on the subject of anonymous web browsing,
Like this reseach from NIK CUBRILOVIC Google Web Accelerator sends requests for web pages, except for secure web pages (HTTPS), to Google, which logs these requests. Some web pages may embed personal information in these page requests. Google receives and temporarily caches cookie data that your computer sends with webpage requests in order to improve performance. In order to speed up delivery of content, Google Web Accelerator may retrieve webpage content that you did not request, and store it in your Google Web Accelerator cache.
There are discussions over the possible dark side of this service and over privacy.
Well, i'm sure Google is going to use theis data for the Pagerank 2.0 they are building. But I think this is a good thing, because it will improve seach results.
Google has a good public reputation , I see them as a 'trusted group of geeks'. I don't think that they are going to sell the statistics to other companies, they don't need the cash. This was actually the first negative news read about Google. But, i still trust them and becuase the caching data is pretty valuable, I'm pretty sure they will keep this data to themselves.
I'm curious how many people are gonna use this service in the future. If the web accelerator gets good reviews and they can really boost things up (my Gmail works pretty fast), this could be another winner for Google... Money and power can result in bad habits, I hope Google stays away from the dark side Will see..
5月3日 Google video has 12 new TV channels including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Discovery Health Channel, CNN, and others".
On the site you can read:
"Our mission is to organize the world's information, and that includes the thousands of programs that play on our TVs every day. Google Video enables you to search a growing archive of televised content – everything from sports to dinosaur documentaries to news shows. At the bottom of the page it says:
Our mission is to give viewers complete access to public affairs programming and we are committed to use new technologies to enhance the value of our services. This partnership with Google further demonstrates how new technologies will expand our audience and make it easier to conduct online searches of our content for information most relevant to them. - Brian Lamb, C-SPAN Chairman and CEO
To bad that it can only be used by people in the US..
This tv show is still the best!
5月2日 Again a new Beta application from Google: Google Print ! From the site:
What is Google Print? Google's mission is to organize the world's information, but much of that information isn't yet online. Google Print aims to get it there by putting book content where you can find it most easily – right in your Google search results. How does Google Print work? Just do an ordinary Google search. When we find a book whose content contains a match for your search terms, we'll link to it in your search results. Click a book title and you'll see the page of the book that has your search terms, along with other information about the book and "Buy this Book" links to online bookstores (you can view the entirety of public domain books or, for books under copyright, just a few pages or in some cases, only the title’s bibliographic data and brief snippets). You can also search for more information within that specific book and find nearby libraries that have it. Where do these books come from? The book content in Google Print comes from two sources: publishers and libraries. Wowie! This is again pretty cool stuff. Searching books from publishers and libraries true Google. This features was announched more than 5 months ago, here is a part of the article:
"Five of the world's largest libraries have joined Google in a Herculean effort to digitize millions of books and make every sentence searchable. The project, which Google officials plan to announce today, involves libraries at Harvard and Stanford Universities, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and the University of Oxford, as well as the New York Public Library. It could soon turn Google into the single largest holder of digitized published material, while also providing researchers and students with an unprecedented tool for finding information" I'm curious how far they are with digitizing this libraries... Does anybody know?

Last week I send a mail to the Google Video Upload team, asking why the approval process of my video is taking so long and if they had any plans for supporting 'video blogging'.
This is the reaction I got:
Thank you for your note. The Google Video Upload Program lets anyone submit videos electronically to Google Video, as long as they own the necessary rights (including copyrights, trademarks, rights of publicity, and any other relevant rights for your content). If your content has been accepted, users will be able to search, preview, and play your video during our next stage of development.
We currently don't offer this program in conjunction with Blogger. To learn more about the Google Video Upload Program, please visit https://upload.video.google.com/video_faq.html
Thanks again for your interest in the Google Video Upload Program. While we can't say when we'll launch Google Video into the next development phase, we encourage you to check back with us over the coming months to see our latest improvements.
Hmmmm, looks like they brought the Video Upload service online in a rush. Probably because Larry Page (Google's cofounder and president for products) had to bring out some news as a reaction on the success of MSN spaces...
4月24日 Google has a new tool in Beta that remembers al the searches you do with Google. It can be used together with a Gmail, Google groups or Google Answers account.
The new service logs al the searches you do on Google (the service can be paused). The advantage is that this works from any computer.. The real cool thing is that as you build a search history, the web application clusters the results from all related search queries. So with a couple of months you will build a full three of stuff that interests you... Nice!
This could be the end of Bookmarks.....
